There Once Was a Writer

There once was a writer who couldn’t write

She sat and stared morning, noon and night

Her thoughts were empty, her pages were bare

She sulked. She cried. She cursed the air

“I give up! I will do this no more!”

She stomped. She scowled. She let out a roar

She abandoned her desk and stepped outside

Her confidence was shot, her brain was fried

She took a stroll to clear her mind

What she found, she wasn’t expecting to find

A bird with one wing was attempting to fly

He wouldn’t give up. He wasn’t prepared to die

As she watched the helpless creature a thought crept in

A story was evolving. Her wheels were beginning to spin

If he refused to give up, so must she

The one winged bird help set her mind free

At the end of her masterpiece reads a simple letter

To my flightless friend, you mended my mind, you made me better

May you fly one day in another land

May your flight be far, may your wings be grand
