KEEP TRUE TO YOURSELF

K-12

It’s so easy to want to get caught up in today’s writing trends. The vampire stories made a few people rich, Harry Potter and his gang put the wizards back on the map and the dystopian novels made for great reads that turned into epic movies.

All of this doesn’t mean that you should try to come up with your own versions of these stories.
Be the person that tries to think of something that hasn’t been thought of before (I know sometimes this feels impossible). Write your own unique stories. Stay true to yourself.

  1. Love this! So true. Gotta find your own voice and use your own perspective.

  2. It’s easy to get caught up in trends and that’s such a mistake. If you don’t stay true to who you are in your writing, it comes out forced and not authentic. Awesome advice to apply not only to writing, but to life.

  3. It is hard, especially when watching and reading new things, not to formulate your own version of that genre. Stephen King said that had he wrote the Datk Tower series when he was younger, it would have turned into Lord of the Rings. Sometimes it’s best to let these ideas simmer and morph for a while so they become more unique.

So true and yet harder to do than you’d think. I completely agree with keeping it original, despite the fact pubbers are buying re-hashes of profitable things. However, it’s harder to stay in a genre few like (like horror) and not want to get a bigger readership by censoring it down to a thriller.

I agree with you. The rehashes seem to be clever spins on popular stories. If you can retell a story in a different way that’s original too so I can see the interest. Thank you so much for stopping by. ☺

  5. Agree with you completely! Be original and just be yourself!!
Hope you are having a great time reading, writing and connecting with fellow A to Zers, Maribeth 🙂

It must be very hard to be true to yourself in writing and still try to provide what is wanted by the public. Good luck with the rest of the A – Z Challenge! 🙂

Yes at times it’s hard but I believe if you have a passion for the story you are writing it will become something magical. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
